Our Curriculum Map
We have mixed aged classes in school and follow the National Curriculum
Teachers plan in cross curricular Topics through the year which run on a 2 year cycle. This makes the work meaningful and gives the children opportunity to work in great detail on the topic subject and to answer any questions they may have for themselves over the half term. They have various opportunities to write for different purposes but the genre is linked closely to the topics to ensure the children have experience in that subject to bring to their writing.
We also use a variety of ICT based programmes which enhance the curriculum for the children and which enable them to progress at their individual levels. They also act as assessment tools to provide extra evidence when moving children forward
Phonics and Reading
Our children learn to read through fun and interactive activities using the Letters and Sounds phonics programme. Reception children use Jolly Phonics and children then work on the different phases through KS1 and into KS2 if appropriate. Each child has an individual reading book and takes part in Guided Reading every day with a trained adult (teacher or teaching assistant) We also encourage our more able readers to Buddy the younger children which benefits both parties.
We use a mixture of schemes to enable individual needs to be met as some are more phonics focused and some are sight vocabulary focused.
