Sports funding 2016-17



      .          Leeds United coaching and CPD for staff (Summer  term 2017) for each class
     .      Intra, inter and County level School competitions throughout the year
     .      Weekly Professional Coaching sessions supervised by staff in Multi skills, Gymnastics and Team Sport

·         Programme on Healthy Lifestyles and Physical Activity with Featherstone Rovers Rugby League Community 

        Programme culminating in Inter School Tag Competition at Rover’s ground

·         Weekly PE lesson with Sports coach for each class working alongside teacher/support staff on variety of skills.
·         After School Clubs weekly across the year including Dance, Cheer Leading, Tag Rugby, Football, Cricket, Dodgeball 

        and Rounders

·         Opportunity to take part in Year 6 Olympic Event at Thornes Park Stadium with other Wakefield Schools
·         Opportunity to take part in Chance to Shine Cricket Initiative with Sharlston Cricket Club – including coaching and 

        competitions
·         Swimming lessons for all Year 4 and 5 pupils and engagement in Galas with other local schools
·         One –off day workshops incorporated into Topics eg Skipping Day, Castleford Tigers Fitness Workshops, Circus skills
·         Motivational Day with Bruce Dyer (ex- professional footballer)
·         Olympic Athlete motivational assembly and sponsored event
·         Cycling proficiency course for Y5&6
·         Sports Mentor Programme for target pupils

We believe that Sport and Physical Activity impacts across all areas of learning not only on physical health but on team work, social skills, self-esteem, language and communication and the readiness to learn within school. The children also gain a huge amount of satisfaction in reaching their own personal goals as well as working together to compete and be successful. They also enjoy it!

Impact of funding over 2015-16: 

 
·         Staff audits show increased confidence through CPD opportunities
·         Pupil progress in each year group shows between 4 and 5.9 Average Points score from Y1 to Y6
·         Pupils in Y4 &5 achieving  targets for swimming skills set by LA
·         Pupils have enjoyed experiencing visits to the other facilities and schools
·         Pupils have grown in confidence by engaging in inter school competitions in the following sports: cross-country, 

        rounders, cricket, netball, athletics, Rugby, swimming and football.

·         Pupils are developing team work and sportsmanship and this is impacting on their ability to work together within other

        subjects across the curriculum.

  • Timetabled PE sessions to be taught jointly by Class teachers and Purston Academy specialist PE teacher – delivered either at school or off site in the Academy Gym and Sports Hall to include Badminton, Tennis, Netball, Tag Rugby, Football, Athletics, Rounders, Trampolining, Gymnastics and Dance.

  • Pupils have grown in confidence by engaging in inter school competitions in the following sports: cross-country, rounders, cricket, netball, athletics, Rugby and football.
  • Pupils are developing team work and sportsmanship and this is impacting on their ability to work together within other subjects across the curriculum.
